March 2020 Newsletter

Dear friends of harp music,

March 16th – update – due to spread of COVID 19 and CDC recommendations we are cancelling Harp and Healing on March17th.

It almost felt like spring out there yesterday and it should it was March 1st! Spring is my favorite time of the year, but I learned that in Missouri it can mean anything from snow, rain, ice storm, 70 degrees warm weather – you name it!
I am also excited for Spring Break! We always plan family adventures and take time off from performing and teaching.
But before we get there I would like to invite you to my March events – I have to warn you there is not much I could fit in, as I am leaving for 10 days to Slovakia tomorrow to see my dad for his big birthday and there is that Spring break later. I am leaving my brave and kind superhusband to single parent 3 kids!
Sooo, in the 2 weeks I will actually be here, we will have Harp and Healing on March 17th at 5.30PM at the Loft of Broadway Christian Church. Please note that this is 3th Tuesday of the month, not first as is our usual. Our wonderful pastor Terry Overfelt let me reschedule because of my trip. This service is meant for those who are struggling with death of a loved one, illness, relationship, heartbreak. It is a meditative time with live harp music and reflections. Free and open for all.  Consider joining us even if you feel like you need a break! Lent is a great time for that.
Wedding season fully starts this month with several wedding ceremonies that I will be playing for – on March 14th in Shrine of St.Joseph in St.Louis, March 15th at A.P.Greene Chapel in Columbia and March 21st at Linn Memorial United Methodist Church in Fayette. I will collaborate with several musicians for these, including a vocalist, violinist and a pianist.
I was very lucky to be part of the premiere of a new oratorio by Carlyle Sharpe Of These Years I Sing at the beginning of February in Springfield. The composer is a wonderful orchestrator, so as soon as I got my harp part I knew it would be special. I really enjoyed his music and the recording of it was just put on YouTube earlier this week. Bellow is the link so YOU can see it as well. Here are some of my favorite parts: (minute 10.42- 15.57 V. movement and 24.19 – 33.15 VIII.movement)
Many of you know that I am the harpist of the Missouri Symphony here in Columbia. Whether you are familiar with MOSY (formerly MOSS – Missouri Symphony Society) or not as much,  I would like to bring to your attention that our wonderful organization is celebrating 50 years of existence this year! I just attended the annual membership meeting today and was reminded of the great role MOSY plays in our community. Whether it’s through the Missouri Symphony Conservatory – bringing up a new generation of musicians or through Hot Summer Nights Festival, community outreach concerts or 3th grade concerts or through Missouri Symphony League organizing fundraisers such as Holiday Home Tour. I am a proud member of MOSY and would love for you to consider membership too, if the future of live and quality music is important to you! Come MOSY with me this year and take part of the celebrations! You can become a member for as small amount as $50 and meet a lot of great people along the way!
For information click bellow or call Rachel, Trent or Monica at the MOSY office 573 875 0600.
