my June and July is filled with the Missouri Symphony concerts during Hot Summer Nights festival. I hope you can attend some of the following concerts. A Grand Night for Singing! June 8th, 8pm, Missouri Theatre The Missouri Symphony and Columbia Chorale welcomes Columbia’s own Melissa Bohon and friends in a semi-staged evening showcasing the best of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Missouri Symphony Orchestra musicians perform in small groups with a wide range of repertoire from the baroque to the very newest works. While enjoying the superb acoustics of the Broadway Christian Church, the audience has a unique opportunity to get close to the musicians and meet with them after the concerts.

Buster Keaton in: The General, June 12, 2019 at 7:00 pm, Missouri TheatreWhen Union spies steal an engineer’s beloved locomotive, he pursues it single-handedly and straight through enemy lines. Enjoy Buster Keaton’s 1926 American silent film comedy accompanied by the Missouri Symphony Orchestra.
Dvorak and Brahms, June 15, 2019 at 7:30 pm, Missouri TheatreThe MSO welcomes young rising star cellist Lukas Goodman to debut with the orchestra.  Winner of the 2019 Texas Young Artists International Competition, he will perform perhaps the greatest cello concerto ever written, Dvorak’s idyllic masterpiece.   The orchestra plays Brahms’ Fourth Symphony in e minor.  Assistant conductor David Stech conducts Mozart. ( no harp in this program)
FREE! Community Concert – Shelter Gardens, June 16, 2019 at 7:00 pm, Shelter GardensOur Community Concerts are free and open to the public.  The Missouri Symphony Orchestra strives to create as many opportunities for music fans to attend live, classical concerts.
Around the World in 80 Minutes – FREE! Family Concert, June 19, 2019 at 7:00 pm, Missouri TheatreA diverse and fun program that takes us around the musical world in 80 minutes! We will travel by hot air balloon, by boat, jet airplane and electric car, to many different countries and meet the most famous composers of each country. Featuring the ‘Parade of Semi-Conductors,’ children’s costume contest: ‘come dress as your favorite country!,’ and the Instrument Petting Zoo, where young audience members can come up onto the stage and receive hands-on experience with many different instruments.
Harry Potter Meets Luke Skywalker, June 21, 2019 at 8:00 pm, Missouri TheatreTwo of the most iconic movie franchises come to life as the Missouri Symphony Orchestra presents music from Harry Potter and Star Wars.  Your favorite themes come together in concert with some film clips and a storyteller reminding us of which movie came when, and who was trying to bewitch, kill, or kiss who (and we don’t just mean the dementors).  Join us in costume and come dressed as your favorite character from either franchise!

Opera: Carmen, June 29, 2019 at 7:30 pm, Missouri Theatre“An Opera to Die For,” featuring the Resident Opera Artists, Carmen has it all; high drama, passionate characters, a story of love, jealousy, and absolutely fabulous melodies.   Spearheaded by the best young opera singers in the country, this fully staged production will keep you hooked on opera.Black Tie optional; Red Carpet complete with Paparazzi! Come in your best red dress and make femme fatale Carmen proud.
Patriotic Pops, July 2, 2019 at 7:30 pm, Missouri TheatreCome celebrate everything America with selections ranging from Sousa marches to the American Musical Theatre.   Bring your own flag to wave or just sit back and look at the ones we have all over the stage.  Sing your favorite American anthems and salute our armed forces with a presentation by the VFW Color Guard.
MSO with The Texas Tenors,July 6, 2019 at 8:00 pm, Missouri TheatreThe Texas Tenors are back in town for their 10th Anniversary Concert. Join JC, Marcus, John, and the Missouri Symphony Orchestra as they perform the music of Broadway, Country, Pop, and Classical in this one-of-a-kind concert event!
Orchestral Fireworks,July 7, 2019 at 4:30 pm, Missouri TheatreAngie Zhang, piano star of the future, makes her return to the Missouri Theatre stage to perform. Saint-Saens Piano concerto No.2, while the orchestra plays Rachmaninoff’s blazingly brilliant Symphonic Dances.  The program is rounded out with an audience request winner conducted by Assistant David Stech.

If you made it all the way here, congratulations!  I hope to see you at some of these concerts. In the Saturdays I had off I played a couple of lovely weddings this month – in Boonville and Alpine Gardens and I will be playing in Saint Louis on the 15th. I am also very much looking forward to performing and presenting the harp to the Missouri Scholars Academy again this year on June 17th.
